About Me...

I am a wife and missionary. I started this blog as a place where I can share my thoughts, loves and daily happenings. I hail from the great state of Virginia. I am a lover of Jesus, wheat-free world traveling Southerner who loves food, people and everything handmade. I have a wonderful husband and family. I like trying new things and have interests in cultures, art, history, literature and of course cooking! I love the beach, the way the sun looks in the evening and the smell of honeysuckle in the summer. There are a great many other things I enjoy...you'll just have to read the posts.

What does La Merla mean? Why La Merla?
La Merla means the blackbird in Italian. The blackbird has always held sentimental value to me because my favorite children's book growing up was called "Days of the Blackbird" by Tomie Depaola. It is based on an old Italian legend. The story is of a little bird that sang her song no matter what the conditions. She was faithful. And the blackbird always reminds me of faithfulness. God's faithfulness to me...and my faithfulness to sing the song that He has put in me. I still have the blackbird I made very long ago hanging in my window to remind me of this truth. So this blog is just the musings of a little blackbird singing her song.
